Recipes, Baking Tips and More!
The kitchen truly becomes a
magical place when I’m baking. This is the place where a few ingredients like
butter, sugar, eggs and flour, when combined in the right order, turn into a beautifully
baked cake. Add a little chocolate icing and some colourful sprinkles, and a work
of art is created. Whether this cake is for a special celebration, or just your
everyday tea, it’s guaranteed that cake will make someone smile.
I’m inspired by that smile on
a friend or family member’s face when they see one of my specially baked goods,
the ‘mmm’ sound after the first taste and the immediate request for a personal
favourite the next time we meet. I love the joy a simple cupcake can bring to
someone’s day.
Born and brought up in Durban,
I baked my first chocolate cake with Mum; her quick and easy butter cake recipe
is still one we make at home. As children, Big Sister, Nishtha and I would race
to lick the bowl first, both of us impatient for a taste of chocolate cake. I moved
away from home after school to study Engineering at the University of Cape
Town. And during my holidays I would experiment with new recipes at home. I’ve
been baking and experimenting with new ideas since then. Now in Johannesburg,
living with my sister, and working as an Engineer, I bake almost every weekend
for friends and family. I am an Engineer by training, but I am really a baker
at heart.
This blog is part of my baking
obsession. Ride along with me, on my baking adventure as I share with you, my
creations, photos and new ideas. I would love to hear from you. Tell me what
you think by leaving a comment or sending me an email. Let us create a world
full of happiness and cupcakes through baking!
